In 2019 Rishi Coupland (Head of Data Intelligence, National Theatre), with support from Professor Patricia Riddell (University of Reading), undertook primary research to investigate UK audience motivations. Using Applied Neuroscience frameworks, a model now exists for audience engagement across a range of live and digital media, artforms and genres. The findings are applicable to recovery planning, audience development, business planning and programming strategy.
