Susan J Royce is an independent consultant and chartered accountant working with charities and social enterprises, mainly in the arts and cultural sector. She works with organisations to develop and implement business models that are socially valuable and financially viable. Her work focuses on supporting organisations and individuals to imagine, create and deliver change through:
- business modelling, strategic planning and risk management;
- innovation for social purpose; and
- organisational development.
She is committed to working with creativity, integrity and with evidence-based approaches.
After reading History at Cambridge, she trained with the public sector practice of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells and qualified in 1991. From 1991 to 2000 she specialised in corporate recovery with PricewaterhouseCoopers. In 2000 she left the City to establish her own consulting practice.
Susan has acted as a lead consultant for Arts Council England’s major change programmes including Stabilisation, Recovery and Financial Intervention. Her other clients have included: the Arts Marketing Association/Future Proof Museums programme, Hackney Empire, HOME, Manchester Jewish Museum, People’s History Museum, Rose Bruford College of Theatre & Performance, Royal Exchange Theatre, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Stratford Circus Arts Centre, The Grand Theatre Blackpool and York Theatre Royal.
Susan regularly leads workshops on business modelling, strategy development and change. She has undertaken research into business models in the arts and has developed advice and guidance on business planning, charity finance and managing financial difficulty.
She has been a trustee and Treasurer of a wide range of organisations including Clean Break Theatre Company and Creative & Cultural Skills. She is currently studying part-time for the Masters in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership at Cass Business School, City, University of London.
